Coaching
This course is designed for adolescent and adult storytellers who are dedicated to character study. While the material here is presented in a non-academic format, it does cover topics that may be broader or deeper than you may have anticipated. Knowledge about self will enhance understanding of characters, and vice versa. Much of this is advance prep work that will support the creativity and inspiration you bring to performance, stage, and page.
The masterclass includes more than four hours of recorded programming and supplemental materials across 10 modules. It's entirely self-paced and on-demand, so you can complete it on your own timeline. We suggest you take time with the exercises and meditations for artistic health, as they may open up some new awarenesses that you'll want to soak in or explore further.
You won't need all the tools every time, but if you learn the program, they will be in you when you need them. The material is substantial and will take on new meaning as you put the work into practice. Come back and revisit as often as you like, and take it in again.
You'll have lifetime access to course materials which is particularly helpful when different projects or characters emphasize different components within the Integral Foundation masterclass. There is no limit to the number of times you can take the class.
This program will help you deepen your understanding of the strengths and gaps in your approach to character study so you can build backstory with depth and breadth. You'll learn the core components that make up a character's inner and outer worlds, which you can then use to create a character composite for auditions. Most of all, you'll gain the insights and concrete tools to better know and care for yourself through your craft.
No matter the project, screenwriters, playwrights, showrunners, and novelists will be able to draw upon the wide array of insights, tools, and curated resources offered in this course to build more compelling characters. Doing so not only helps writers win over audiences and readers but also provides performers and directors with a more informed understanding of the characters at hand. Through their application of the artistic health practices, writers will gain specific strategies for better knowing and caring for themselves through the characters they create.
This masterclass will give you a framework to deepen your understanding of characters and their stories so that you know them completely, or at least have the tools to flesh them out thoroughly. When working with collaborators, you can refer to different components presented in this course to ensure everyone is aligned on a particular character or scene. Not all tools will be needed for every project, but you will have them all at the ready when you need them.
Editors, animators, set designers, wardrobe, hair and makeup, directors of photography, dancers, graphic designers, script supervisors, educators—anyone involved in creating characters or who is personally impacted by the process—can benefit from this course.
